Diesel Generator Set Maintenance and Inspection

1. Importance of Regular Maintenance

Regular maintenance and inspection of the diesel generator set is the most economical and easiest way to ensure the engine runs with good performance and reliable working status. Maintenance and inspection should be performed regularly, and results must be recorded. Only professional maintenance personnel with experience in diesel generator sets should perform these tasks.

2. Working Environment Considerations

The following working environments are not suitable for generator set operation, as they may affect the maintenance period and engine performance:

  1. Harsh temperature areas
  2. Salt mist areas
  3. Dusty and windy areas
  4. Chemical pollution areas

Whenever possible, ensure the generator set operates in a clean, neat, dustproof, waterproof, and normal environment.

3. Safety Precautions

3.1 Personal Safety

Without proper maintenance, the generator set cannot be guaranteed to function correctly. Always ensure personal safety during maintenance or inspection. The main battery power switch must be turned off before starting any work.

3.2 Electrical Safety

When servicing the connector, diesel engine, or control panel, ensure the entire power supply is cut off. If the engine runs accidentally, it may cause serious injury or death.

3.3 Battery Maintenance

Check that the battery is placed in a well-ventilated position. Hydrogen gas released from the battery can ignite due to sparks caused by disassembling the engine, tools contacting positive (+) and negative (-) terminals, or accidental metal collisions. Follow the correct order: disconnect the negative (-) terminal first, then the positive (+) terminal during disassembly; reverse during assembly.

Do not smoke during battery maintenance because explosive gases can cause serious injury.

3.4 Fuel System Safety

Keep all flames, cigarettes, and sparks away from the fuel system. Sparks or explosions can ignite fuel, causing injury or death.

3.5 Engine Oil Level Safety

Do not start the engine if the oil level is above or below the normal range. High oil levels can create bubbles or mix oil with fuel, while low oil levels can cause low oil pressure.

3.6 Crankcase Pressure Safety

Crankcase pressure can cause hot oil to spray, leading to severe burns. Never inspect the generator set while it is running.
