Chongqing Cummins Engine Co., Ltd: Company Overview and Product Advantages

Company Background

Chongqing Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. (CCEC) is a Sino-American joint venture established in October 1995. The company is located in Shapingba District, Chongqing. Its Chinese parent company is Chongqing Mechanical & Electrical Co., Ltd., while the foreign parent company is Cummins (China) Investment Co., Ltd., with both parties holding a 50% stake.

The company employs more than 1,400 people. Its predecessor, Chongqing Automobile Engine Factory, began designing and manufacturing diesel engines in the 1950s.

Development History

Chongqing Cummins represents the starting point of Cummins’ localized production in China and is currently the largest manufacturer of heavy-duty and high-horsepower Cummins engines in the country.

In 1981, Cummins signed a licensing agreement with the former Sinotruk Group, marking the beginning of high-horsepower diesel engine production in Chongqing. Over the years, cooperation between both parties has deepened, making Chongqing Cummins a key driver of Cummins’ rapid growth in China.

Main Products

The company mainly produces Cummins N, K19, K38, K50, and M11 series diesel engines, as well as generator sets and power equipment.

These products are widely used in heavy-duty trucks, large buses, construction machinery, mining equipment, petroleum machinery, railway systems, port machinery, fixed and mobile diesel generator sets, power stations, marine propulsion systems, auxiliary power systems, and water pump units.

The engines meet China National Stage II and Stage III emission standards (equivalent to Euro II and Euro III), as well as U.S. and European emission requirements. Non-road engines comply with Stage I and Stage II emission standards.

The engine power range covers 200 HP to 1600 HP, making them suitable for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications.

Technical Advantages

Chongqing Cummins diesel engines are developed based on advanced heavy-duty engine technology concepts. They offer high reliability, excellent durability, superior fuel economy, compact structure, high power output, large torque, strong torque reserve, and high component versatility.

Service System

The company’s product technology, manufacturing processes, and application technologies are synchronized with Cummins global standards. Products are designed to meet the specific needs of the Chinese market, delivering excellent performance in power, efficiency, reliability, durability, safety, and environmental protection.

The company provides quality assurance and warranty services in accordance with Cummins international standards.

A fast-response service system ensures customer support within 30 minutes of receiving a request, with service plans developed promptly and technicians dispatched within 4 hours. A 24-hour customer service hotline is also available.

The nationwide service network includes 10 regional service centers, over 100 service agents and stations, and more than 600 professionally trained technicians. The Cummins East Asia High-Power Engine Training Center provides comprehensive user training.

Management System and Certifications

The company has established a comprehensive quality management system. It obtained ISO9001:1994 certification in 1999, ISO9001:2000 certification in 2002, and ISO/TS16949:2002 certification in 2006.

In 2006, the company passed the national safety and quality standardization review and was recognized as a “National Level Safety and Quality Standardized Enterprise.”

In 2008, the company obtained OHSAS18001 and ISO14001 certifications. These certifications were updated in 2009, demonstrating its commitment to occupational health, safety, and environmental management.

Key Features of CCEC Engines

Low Fuel Consumption and High Efficiency

The Cummins patented PT fuel system and ultra-high injection pressure ensure optimal fuel atomization and complete combustion. The Holset turbocharger improves air intake efficiency, enhancing combustion and reducing fuel consumption. Air-to-air cooling further improves intake efficiency and fuel economy.

Compact Structure and Easy Maintenance

Wet cylinder liners provide excellent heat dissipation and are easy to replace. High component commonality and standardized design simplify maintenance. Integrated lubrication channels in the cylinder block and head ensure compact structure, low failure rates, and reliable performance.

Core Components Design

The cylinder block is made of high-strength alloy cast iron, offering excellent rigidity, low vibration, and low noise. The cylinder head features a four-valve-per-cylinder design to optimize air-fuel ratio and improve combustion and emissions. Each cylinder has an independent head for easy maintenance.

The camshaft adopts a single-cam design for precise valve and injection timing control, improving reliability and durability. The crankshaft is forged from high-strength steel and treated with induction hardening for enhanced fatigue resistance.

The piston uses advanced aluminum alloy casting technology with an omega-shaped head and barrel skirt design, compensating for thermal expansion and ensuring optimal fit.

Professional System Configuration

The lubrication system uses forced lubrication with a high-capacity gear pump, oil cooler, full-flow filter, and bypass filter to maintain oil quality.

The fuel system features the Cummins PT system, optimized combustion design, STC timing system, and low-pressure fuel supply system for safe and reliable operation.

The cooling system uses a gear-driven centrifugal water pump, large flow channels, and specialized additives to prevent rust and cavitation while maintaining coolant quality.

The intake and exhaust system includes an efficient Holset turbocharger, pressure pulse exhaust design, and air-to-air cooling to improve performance and emissions.

Global Reputation and Applications

Since entering China in 1975, Cummins engines have been widely used in construction machinery, heavy vehicles, power generation, marine applications, and more. The company has established long-term partnerships with major customers worldwide.

Cummins engines are highly recognized for their strong power, low fuel consumption, high reliability, and low maintenance costs.

Continuous technological upgrades, including air-to-air cooling and electronic fuel injection, have further improved engine performance. Engines introduced since 2008 offer power ranging from 227 kW to 1329 kW and meet advanced emission standards for non-road machinery.
